I worked as a contract web developer, designer, and digital consultant. I built WordPress websites for clients, design and develop data visualizations and digital interactive projects, and created custom plugins and theme modifications to existing WordPress websites. Past and current clients included CalMatters, The Hechinger Report, EdSource and All-in Strategies.

I taught a class exploring Online Journalism for the Fall 2016 semester, where we covered how journalists can leverage the web to enhance their reporting and tell deeper stories using multimedia, data and other technologies.

I helped develop and implement a digital media strategy for the organization, created data-driven and interactive digital projects, maintained and customized the WordPress CMS and collected and analyzed traffic analytics. I worked with reporters to enhance their stories using data and other digital storytelling mediums.

I helped create content for a mobile app startup called Scoople. The app was a news aggregator that gamified the news consumption experience of its users through competitive mechanics, inducing predicting how others would respond to details of news items.

Before the newspaper folded in 2008, I worked the Eureka politics beat and assisted with the newspaper’s court coverage. Most notably, I covered the trial of David Gundersen, a former Blue Lake Police Chief on trial for allegedly sexually assaulting his wife.
